Hey,
Great to have you here! You probably are on this website because you share our love for Webstudio. It is just the best website builder out there and that's why we are happy to create this website and bring the Webstudio community together.
What is Webstudio?
Webstudio is an open source, visual canvas, no code or low code website builder. You can use it to create all kind of websites and then export these and host them on your own server. Webstudio is tool agnostic. You can choose one or several backends and connect these via APIs and this is also the case for icon libraries etc.
Who is the founder of Webstudio?
The project is led by its founder, Oleg Isonen. Oleg worked at Webflow a few years ago and he got three ideas out of this: 1. Webflow is a wonderful company and product. 2. A visual canvas website builder is loved and needed by designers, developers and indie hackers. 3. Webflow is based on decades old infrastructure and should be completely rebuild from scratch, but that is not possible at the moment.
A few years after Oleg left Webflow, he created Webstudio and grew it to an impressive tool.
Webstudio Review
Webstudio is the best website builder out there and it is only getting better. This is a glowing review of it but also some points you need to consider.
Webstudio is a visual canvas website builder that is giving you all the freedom and flexibility you need. That means, you can do a lot of visual things with it. Considering that you can import and custom code, you can basically do everything visually.
But this comes at the cost of a steep learning curve. Here is the beautiful thing: most of these learnings are not directly related to the Webstudio platform, but it is basics of html and CSS. So you can watch Youtube videos about HTML and CSS and learn what you need for Webstudio.
The backend gives you again flexibility, but it is again a bit of a learning curve and it is overwhelming as there are 20+ backends you can choose from. Many in the community use Baserow for data and programmatic SEO / dynamic pages, but for articles, this might not work well. So again, there is a learning requirement.
Webstudio is not yet as feature rich as Framer or Webflow - the two main competitors, but it has a stronger foundation and can grow to become something much bigger. Potentially, Webstudio is the frontend open source platform in the 2020s what Wordpress became as a CMS in the 2010s.
The Webstudio's team is commited to open-source principles and that ensures that Webstudio will continue to evolve with transparency and the direct involvement of its community. Yes, the clause says that Webstudio can change pricing and terms at their discretion, but you can always then move your builds onto your own server infrastructure. It is not a system that captures you like Framer, Wix or Webflow, but more akin Wordpress or Drupal.
Webstudio websites are among the fastest, cleanest and best performing on the web.
"We at Webstudiosi believe in the future of Webstudio and are excited about the development. That's why we started Webstudiosi: to support the growth and interaction of a community around Webstudio."
Why Webstudiosi
Webstudiosi is the dedicated blog and community for users of Webstudio. We organize calls and meetups and engage with the community and team at Webstudio to support Webstudio development and showcase experts, agencies and website examples. We also share knowledge and best practices.
Webstudiosi was started in June 2025 by Philipp as a community-driven hub for everything related to Webstudio. (More information and a link to Philipp's profile will follow soon). Webstudiosi aims to involve the Webstudio community and more members will join this about us in the future.
Whether you're just starting or are an experienced professional, we invite you to explore the resources here and join the conversation. Let's build the future of the web together.
Webstudiosi History
Look, we are all pretty new. Webstudio started 3 years ago and is still a small project (but growing!) and we at Webstudiosi just got started. As of end of July, this is how our website version 0.1 looks like:

Now, it already looks differently. In the end, you read these paragraphs and the website went from a very minimalistic, non-scrollable one pager to a website that has a dozen pages and categories.
Webstudiosi Goal
We want to iteratively get better and grow as a community and learn from each other.
In September, we hope to have provided a lot of value to the community by having a curated expert directory, organized meetups and calls and shared best practices as well as engaged in discussion. If we could showcase 50 top notch websites, 10 experts and 5 agencies and 5 articles that would be measurable goals. Plus maybe a total of 10,000 views on our Youtube videos in total.
This website is a place for students, designers, developers, and creators of all levels to learn, share, and get inspired. Our goal is to build a comprehensive resource that includes tutorials, showcases, expert directories, and news, all centered around the amazing capabilities of Webstudio. We believe in the power of community, and everyone is invited to get involved, share their work, and contribute to our growing collection of knowledge.
